PROGRAMSWorking in unison to bring about change...
We are committed to harnessing the power of research and strategic use of data to highlight the characteristics, challenges, and contributions of the Latino regional community. LFGW’s research endeavors are designed to generate, synthesize and disseminate timely and accurate information on Latinos appropriate for use in advocacy, policy formulation, service delivery, and training initiatives. Research priorities reflect gaps in the literature regarding Latinos and key social justice issues, our member agencies’ informational needs, and the likelihood that the research will have direct application to Latino community empowerment. Through unique collaborative, community-based research initiatives, LFGW will continue to fill information gaps, identify areas for further research, and generate critical, strategic analysis of the actual state of Latinos in Greater DC. We believe that strong coalitions can multiply the power of advocacy, creating a force for substantial change. LFGW’s advocacy goal is to raise the voice and visibility of Latinos in policy-setting arenas, thereby increasing access to economic and political resources for the region’s Latino-serving agencies. Advocacy priorities are determined by a consensus agenda from LFGW’s member agencies and synergies among LFGW’s other programs and partners. LFGW is committed to working side by side with Latino and other social justice leaders to bring about transparency, accountability, and equality in our region. Using our collective strength and shared purpose as Latinos, we intend to define, articulate, and advance an advocacy agenda that reflects community priorities for our region.
We believe that with successful investments in organizational capacity, our small- to medium-sized member agencies can accompllish even more to improve the lives of Latinos in the region. LFGW builds community capacity by providing training, technical assistance and resources so LFGW member agencies can meet the needs of the Latino community more effectively and efficiently. Services offered are based on member agencies’ articulated needs and priorities for training and technical assistance, gleaned through member surveys, evaluations, and ongoing dialog. LFGW is committed to promoting the highest standards of internal ethics and accountability in governance and management as well as throughout our membership base. Through our capacity-building investments, we intend to strengthen and position Latino-serving nonprofits in greater D.C. as the most transparent and rigorous social service providers in the nation.
